It pays to take out of the business to review progress and think strategically about the future. Too often small and medium-sized businesses don't find time to do this, except perhaps annually when they visit their accountant, if their accountant, as we do, discusses wider business issues than the accounts themselves. As a sole trader or sole director, it is impossible to have a meeting with yourself, but some clients value a one-to-one meeting with us, especially if we are producing management accounts.
To medium-sized clients, without a finance manager/ director, we offer ''On Board'': a service whereby a member of the senior management team attends monthly or quarterly board or partnership meetings, standing in for the finance director and putting a financial perspective on the historic progression and future development of the business. Coming from outside the business we bring fresh perspectives from our broader client base. We do not assume to become directors, but act in an advisory capacity, although we will chair the meeting if requested to do so.
For larger clients (even those with a finance director) we can act in an advisory capacity or as non-executive director.
